 It takes 2.5 - 3 pounds of beans to make just one pound of cocoa butter. Most cocoa butter is extracted at high heat, sometimes using solvents, thus destroying the Vitamin E content and often has pesticide residue, but not ours! (It's certified organic AND Australian Customs regularly test it on import).

Cacao Butter is the edible natural fat of the chocolate bean, cold pressed to retain its nutritional properties and exquisite natural aroma and flavour. It's traditionally been used as a rich natural moisturiser; as a sexy and decadent massage oil; for soothing babies sore bums; in organic- based cosmetics like lipstick and balm, and in luxury soapmaking.

Suggested Uses: Raw Foodists love it !! Use instead of butter on toast etc, or warm gently until soft (melting point approx 35C / 95 F), then add as desired to raw foodist concoctions like blissballs or ice cream, chocolate creations, smoothies or desserts - or smear on skin and lips for the ultimate moisturiser.

Cacao Butter is a good source of Vitamin E (beta- and gamma- tocopherols) and has a unique composition including the essential fatty acids Omega-6 and monounsaturated Omega-9 (oleic acid, like olive oil) as well as stearic acid - an unusual fat in that it neither increases nor decreases blood cholesterol.

1. What does it taste like?
Not much really, but it does have the strong aromatic smell of delicious chocolate.

2. Occasionally the Cacao Butter has a white-ish film around the outside - why is that?
Cacao butter is a very stable product with long shelf life, even stored above room temperature.
When the cacao butter is melted and poured into tubs, there can be subtle humidity or aeration variations that lead to a thin film of microscopic ‘bubbles’ forming on the surface, which give an opaque white-ish appearance….though rare, this is a completely natural occurrence.
