As lead vocalist of Tonight Alive Jenna's greatest passion is making music and performing however she has had some challenges to overcome along the way. Being a sufferer of ECZEMA, her condition flared up very badly during 2011 and 2012. Jenna's body was overloaded with toxins resulting in her eczema reaching a point of paralysis. Willing to try anything, Jenna saw doctor after doctor and tried countless forms of treatment but gained no relief and found no answers. During that period Tonight Alive completed 9 tours.

After many failed attempts at seeking relief for her eczema Jenna saw an Ayurvedic doctor. By examining her tongue he was able to explain to Jenna that her small intestine was too weak to break down grains which was causing high levels of acid in her blood, resulting in the extreme irritation of her skin. From this point on Jenna cut out bread, rice, pasta, cereal and anything that contains flour from her diet. Jenna's diet is now vegan and she takes care to balance any over-acidity with alkaline foods to keep her blood clean.

We can imagine how challenging maintaining a healthy lifestyle must be for someone so often on the road, in unfamiliar towns and living the life of a rockstar. We had some questions to ask...

How do you manage to stay so healthy in an environment that is notorious for its unhealthy aspects?

There's honestly so much temptation when you're travelling to choose the fastest, most convenient options; but you soon find out they just don't pay off. I became really passionate about health foods after my lifelong skin condition got out of control in 2011. We take our health for granted until we don't have it anymore and I learned that the hard way. For me now, eating well is not just a habit it's a lifestyle and totally vital to my overall wellbeing and happiness.

What tricks can you share for other travellers to stay healthy while on the road.

I find the best way to stay inspired to eat well is to surround myself with good influences. Most of the accounts I follow on Instagram are foodies, health tips, home exercise and natural remedies. The app 'Yelp' also totally transformed touring for me. All I have to search is 'vegetarian food' or 'juice bar' to find the closest locations. It also gets me off the bus and exploring the city I'm in.

Do you feel that you have cured your eczema through diet. Do you still suffer the occasional flare ups?

I do actually; which is a huge statement considering the countless practitioners who told me there was no such thing as a cure for eczema. Sometimes we'll look anywhere for an answer but within. I do occasionally suffer with some irritation now and then, but I feel that it's ultimately in my control. If a craving for a slice of pizza or a glass of wine is so strong, I know my limits and how to counteract their effects on my body.

You have fans all over the world that you inspire, do you feel you have inspired many to follow the same healthy path as you and how does that make you feel?

Nothing makes me happier than to impact people in a positive way. It's always been a huge part of my love for music and making music, but I never imagined I would be such a big advocate for health foods the way that I am. I'd love to take a course and keep expanding my knowledge. But more than anything, I'm so relieved to know there is an endless world of options out there for us all. So many people suffer from physical, mental and spiritual challenges that can be prevented, eased and even cured through diet. I'm proud especially of the young people out there taking intuitive with their health.

What are your favourite superfoods and how do you most like to use them?

My favourite superfoods are Maca, Cacao, Wheatgrass and Acai. I got into smoothies when I phased out grains from my diet, replacing my typical breakfast of toast, cereal or oatmeal. It had the most gentle effect on my body while making the most drastic changes. I like to mix up my smoothie recipes from day to day (mostly based on flavour) but with the added bonus of all their health benefits.

What do you miss most when you are away from Australia?

I think what I miss the most when I'm away from home is having a backyard. I love feeling grass on my skin and sun on my face. It's like coming home to a little slice of paradise, where nothing feels out of reach..

A huge thanks to Jenna for sharing her story and inspiring so many young people around the world to follow the healthy path.
