Hi there, I am a mother of 5, a raw chef, food photographer and owner of the Raw Kiwi brand.

Our journey into health all started with the diagnosis of our 2nd child’s autism. It started small with me spending hours on the Internet researching gluten and dairy free diets, and various other diets pertaining to autism treatments.

Our son was a very fussy eater, suffered from various rashes as well as having chronic digestive problems – all common problems associated with autism.

Over time, by trialing different diets and working with a Naturopath, we started to see a change in eating habits, which in turn resulted in a massive improvement in digestive issues and consequently, his behaviour.

However it certainly wasn’t the magic pill that various families were proclaiming all over the Internet, but it motivated me to look further into health and wellbeing.

After the birth of my 3rd child I came across the raw food diet and superfoods. The more I researched, the more it made sense to me. I come from a family with an extensive history of cancer and so the idea of ‘food is medicine’ and avoiding as many lifestyle diseases quickly became my philosophy.

I’ve been eating a high raw diet for almost 7 years now and have learned from various experts in the field. We have included various superfoods in our diets from the beginning. They are a fantastic way of getting maximum nutrients into fussy eaters and toddlers.

Our kids love smoothies and raw treats and consistently consume maca, spirulina, maqui, camu camu, chia seeds, cacao, coconut palm sugar, acai, goji berries and coconut oil. Some of our children have been eating superfoods since birth whilst the 2 eldest for the past 7 years.

They are all very healthy, bright kids. When their diets are clean, they are very even-tempered and well adjusted, however as I am not the only person who feeds them, their diets are not always optimal. This is definitely reflected in their behaviours and especially true of our son with autism. Still, you can’t control everything all of the time and so I’m happy that they have a great foundation.

One thing that was very apparent to me was the correlation between my diet during different pregnancies and the early development and health of each child. The children born after I changed to a raw food diet, reached their milestones a lot faster and didn’t suffer from eczema, asthma, tonsillitis or ear infections, where as the other children did suffer quite badly early in life.

When I was younger I never really understood how much food matters. I didn’t see the correlation between what I ate and how I felt. I knew that I didn’t feel ‘right’ but I had no idea how to fix it. Changing my diet has really open that up for me and passing that onto my children is in my opinion one of the best things I can do.

When you have health, you have everything.
